Bathroom Safety Tips
Aging seniors are living in their own homes and prefer to remain independent. However, this does not mean they will remain safe. Bathroom and shower safety are huge concerns for seniors. It can be common for seniors to fall while showering and suffer serious injuries. Here bathroom and shower safety tips.
1. Caregivers be aware of physical restrictions that the senior may have. This could hinder the ability to shower on their own. If there is concern, they may need assistance while in the bathroom
2. All bathrooms should have safety equipment installed. This does not mean the entire room must be remodeled. Installing safety bars and non-slip mats can help protect seniors in the shower.
3. Some seniors benefit from having a telephone in the bathroom. If the senior owns a cordless phone, taking it into the bathroom when they shower is a good idea. This will enable them to call for help.
4. A few seniors may lack in physical strength. Using a shower chair could help keep the senior safe while showering.
